Who was John Wesley?
John Wesley, after whom our school is named, was an Anglican priest and one of the founders of the Methodist movement in eighteenth-century Britain, together with his brother Charles Wesley.
Raised in a strong Christian home, John developed a deep commitment to prayer, Scripture and serving others. While studying at Oxford, he and a group of friends met regularly to pray, study the Bible, visit the sick and prisoners, and help those in need. Their disciplined approach to faith led others to call them “Methodists”.
After a life-changing experience of God’s grace, John Wesley devoted his life to sharing the Gospel and encouraging people to grow in faith, holiness and love.
What is Methodism?
Methodism places a strong emphasis on:
- experiencing God’s love personally;
- growing in faith and Christian character;
- welcoming and caring for others;
- serving the wider community; and
- expressing faith through prayer, worship and song.
For Methodists, faith is not only something we believe — it is something we live.
