Sport at John Wesley School

Home Sport at John Wesley School

John Wesley School recognises the wonderful role that sport plays in a learner’s life, and is glad to be able to offer its learners a comprehensive extracurricular programme, with a large variety of sports and activities.

Sport plays a crucial part in the development of children as it provides them with the opportunity to enhance and refine their overall body condition, gaining quality and quantity of movement.

A child with weak fine motor co-ordination will take longer to learn skills which involve the use of hands, such as writing. This could result in many difficulties for the child, such as not being able to finish an exam on time.

Western children now spend many hours in front of a television or computer, seldom playing or exercising. This is an alarming trend, when one bares in mind that brainwave activity is lower when watching television than when sleeping!

When used as a positive learning tool, sport provides children with an opportunity to improve their health, social and physical skills and, therefore, their confidence.

Participating in sport is a fun and rewarding experience which enriches a child’s life.

Through sport, children learn to set clear goals, to persevere and to work together as a team.
