    Community Outreach Projects

    By Admin | Giving | Comments are Closed | 3 May, 2017 | 1

The children and staff of John Wesley School conducted various fundraising activities to generate funds for our Outreach Programme.

Beneficiaries include Phakamisa, The Open Door Crisis Centre and Youth for Christ’s Tennyson House Project.

    Phakamisa

Phakamisa (pronounced pa-ga-mee-sa, a Zulu word meaning “to uplift”) is a ministry of Pinetown Methodist Church (South Africa).

It exists to serve and uplift impoverished communities through the provision of educational training, resourcing and support.

The school works closely with the other Missions of the church and gives as often as possible in the form of food or clothing donations.

    Pinetown Open Door Crisis Centre

The Open Door Crisis Centre is a non-profit, interdenominational outreach organisation established in 1997 at the request of the South African Police Services.

The Centre’s services reach from Durban and throughout the Highway District and as far as Port Shepstone and Richards Bay.

Its aim is to sustain a holistic, multi-faceted one-stop crisis and trauma centre offering counselling, social services and support groups.

A counsellor from the Open Door Crisis Centre comes to the school on a weekly basis to counsel learners in need.

John Wesley School has a fundraising initiative in place to raise funds which are donated to the Open Door Crisis Centre every year.
